We recognise that transitions can be difficult for a child with SEND and take steps to ensure that any transition is as smooth as possible.
How we will support children with SEND when they are moving on to another class or leaving this school:
On entry into School – Close links are established with feeder Nurseries to ensure detailed information is passed across and interventions put in place immediately. Children have regular visits into school in order to become familiar with the school setting, staff and routines. Parents are also welcome to attend sessions in school prior to the children starting.
Transition from class to class – As a small, nurturing school children are very familiar with all staff, which eases the transition process. Children are provided with transition sessions where they meet their new teacher, support staff and learning environment. For specific, individual children who find change particularly difficult – a personal passport will be developed which will have photographs of staff, the learning environment and key points of information.
Transition into Secondary School – Close links exist between Bloemfontein Primary School and the local Secondary Schools. The Headteacher attends regular meetings with the Secondary school to ensure key information is passed on. Children attend curriculum activities, performances, regular visits and sporting events at the local Secondary. This aids the transition and reduces anxiety. Staff are invited to attend meetings in school to ensure they are provided with as much information as possible in order to effectively support all pupils.
If you would like to discuss your SEND requirements in detail please contact the school to arrange an appointment.
