| NewsProfessor BrainstormThe whole school was treated to a fantastic morning with Professor Brainstorm today! He taught us many amazing scientific facts whilst making it look like magic. The children helped him complete scientific investigations and found out some wonderful facts! Mrs Abbott risked having water poured over her when he held a milk bottle full of water sealed only by a ping pong ball over her head! The older children had a further insight into scientific investigations about space. We would recommend a visit from him to anyone!! World Book DayThursday March 1st we celebrated World Book Day in style. Everyone came to school either dressed as a book character or in pyjamas ready for a bedtime story. Parents came in for an assembly and a cup of coffee. The staff rose to the occasion - all dressed up! We had many fun lessons, stopping for reading when the bell rang. Dinner was super - a whole school favourite pudding was served "Charlie's Chocolate Fudge Cake"! The children took part in a treasure hunt around school finding the answers to questions about books. Children were chosen, having completed book reviews at home, to go to Seven Stories bookstore to spend money on a new book - we look forward to seeing what they choose. Well done everyone - what a great day in school. OFSTED Subject Survey InspectionOn Thursday 12th January 2012 we had a subject survey inspection for History. Dr Michael Maddison HMI, said that the overall effectiveness of history in our school is good. The inspection included: interviews with the staff and pupils; scrutiny of relevant documentation; analysis of pupils' work; and observation of three lessons. A learning walk was undertaken to look at displays in school and a visit to Reception/ Year One class was made. The children were very keen to show off their history skills to Dr Maddison and let him know that "history is fun"! The Report from Ofsted Valentines DiscoThe Friends are holding a Valentines Disco on Friday 10th February at 6.30pm to 9.00pm . Entry is £1 per person. We will also have burgers and hotdogs at 50p each, bacon sandwiches at £1, tuck shop will also be available (various prices) and raffle. Carol Singing at Stanley Park Care HomeChildren in Class One were proud to be invited to sing at Stanley Park Care Home on the last day of term. The snow began to fall as we made our way up to Stanley and by the time we arrived it was falling heavily - perfect atmosphere for carol singing. The fire was roaring and the elderly residents were eager for our performance. Following a fantastic performance of all our carols the Year Six boys shook hands with the old people wishing them a Merry Christmas. Some of the old ladies hugged and kissed them thanking them for their singing. One of our lads even remarked that we should do more for the people living there as they probably "wouldn't even have anyone to visit them on Christmas Day". This was a rewarding end to a very hard working term and we look forward to building our connections with the Stanley Park Care Home and its residents. Merry Christmas to them from Bloemfontein Primary School! Merry Christmas and Happy New YearThe children, staff and governors would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and and a Happy New Year. Let's hope that 2012 is a good year for everyone! Our Friends have already bought us a fabulous shed for our EYFS area and a fantastic new football strip this year. Thank you so much to those who work hard for our school. We Have EggsOur chickens are so at home now that they have started laying!! The children now know that eggs don't just come from the supermarket! We have asked for suggestions of names and will let you know what we have called them soon! Children in Need (14th - 18th November 2011)All this week we are working towards raising funds for the Pudsey Bear Appeal. We are having quizzes and wordsearches, baking and selling buns, wearing red and yellow on Friday and having bears painted on our hands. Watch this space and we will let you know how much we raise!!! ChickensOver the weekend a cockerel and two chickens were delivered to our school to begin living there. We are going to have a competition to name them. We hope that they begin to lay eggs which will show that they have settled in to their new home. Watch this space and we will let you know what we have called them! Remembrance SundayKate, from the School Council, represented school at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday where she lay a wreath of poppies remembering all those who died at war and their families. There was a lot of people there including some other children from our school. We will always remember those who have given their lives for our country. Little Green Riding HoodThe children and staff had great fun learning about water conservation through watching a pantomime entitled "Little Green Riding Hood" on the afternoon of Friday 11th November. This was a great way of rounding off a busy week whilst still continuing to learn! |
