4/02/16 – The first after school Taekwondo club started tonight and I am so proud of the behaviour, attitude and skills the children showed in their first session – keep it up all of you!
3/02/16 – The whole school have enjoyed learning about how to keep themselves safe online and are now the experts! We had fantastic workshops delivered by Sam and Amy from ‘one day creative’ and even the staff are now pros. A huge big congratulations to Class 4, 5 and 6 who performed an internet safety show for parents and relatives – you have even taught me how to stay safe online! I will NOT share my password with anyone, use a photo as my avatar or give personal information to strangers. Thank you also to the parents and relatives who came along. Micah you did steal the show!
2/02/16 – Three children have started their brass band training this week – they seem really keen and I can’t wait to hear you play! Thank you to Dave from Craghead Colliery band for your support. Yet more talented children at ‘The Font’!
28/1/16 – The school were very impressed today with our Taekwondo demonstration. Mr Churchward showed us his amazing skills and even managed to chop bricks with his bare hands – he is a true super hero! Thank you also to Mr Cassap who volunteered (kind of!) to hold the pads, as Mr Churchward demonstrated his moves. A club for our oldest children will start next week and the younger children will have a chance after the Easter holidays. I can’t wait to see your skills develop.
27/1/16 – Gemma posted on Twitter that she too is proud of us!
26/1/16 The whole school completed a gruelling exercise circuit today and even the staff were spotted doing the spotty dog! This is a sponsored event to help raise money for school sports equipment and everyone got stuck in.
This was followed by an inspirational assembly led by Gemma Collis, an Olympic fencing medal winner. Gemma competed in London 2012 and is training hard to secure a place in the 2016 Olympics in Brazil (everyone at ‘The font’ will keep their fingers crossed for you!)
Gemma’s told the children and staff her amazing story of courage through fulfilling her Olympic dream even after losing the use of her legs. I know I feel inspired to never give up on anything – there is no such word as ‘I can’t’! I really hope that we all remember her messages for a long long time to come.
13/1/16 – The children and staff all had a very puzzling day in school today and really enjoyed their ‘Happy Puzzle Day!’ To quote Kai Ridsdale “Miss, it was mint!” Lots of children talked about resilience and they didn’t give up! Parents, grandparents, Aunties and younger siblings loved the after school puzzles and it was amazing to see families cracking problems together. Keep an eye out for our new after school puzzle club – coming soon……….
5/1/16 – Happy New Year and welcome back to school – I have missed you all. Thank you for all of the gorgeous pressies – we were very spoilt! I can’t wait to see what this term will bring and have oodles of fun activities planned – I like to keep you all busy!
18/12/16 – The build up to Christmas has been jam-packed and very festive! We had a wonderful KS1 performance of ‘Whoops a daisy angel!” and lots of proud parents and staff wiped away their tears! Key Stage 2 impressed us all with their singing during the Carol Service and even the parents/relatives joined in. Claire and Marie cooked us up a Christmas feast and it was lovely to see so many families tucking in together – no mention of Christmas jumpers (you know who you are!) We also joined in with parties, visits from Santa, a disco and even ‘The Font’ does the Polar Express! I hope you have a very merry Christmas and that Santa is kind to you all – see you in January x
6/12/15 – Our Christmas choir sang like angels today within the chapel of Beamish Museum. Decked in traditional cloaks, the children sang traditional songs with confidence and talent. Simon Cowell watch out! There was not a dry eye in the chapel (parents/grandparents you were caught!) I am immensely proud of you all and am always amazed by the level of talent we have at ‘The Font’. Thank you also for your impressive behaviour when representing the school.
